Obituary for Vincent Shilney

Vincent Shilney, age 97, passed away on August 20, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Vincent proudly served his country in the United States Navy and remained active in honoring fellow veterans throughout his life. He was a member of the American Legion in Tinley Park, and participated in the 2014 Honor Flight. He could often be found enjoying breakfast at the Olympic Star and was well known for his hardworking spirit. Vincent worked his career as a local Union Truck Driver and then spent his retirement working in maintenance at the Tinley Park housing development, served as a Tinley Park Auxiliary Police Officer, and continued driving as a porter well into his late 80s.

Vincent met Theresa June Regan, lovingly called June in 1946 and married November 12, 1949.  They moved to Tinley Park in 1954, and have stayed active in the community.  

Vincent is survived by his children Barbara (Larry) Damon, Janet (Roy) Ogren, and Michael Shilney. He was a proud grandfather to John (Nikole) Damon, Matthew Damon, Curtis Damon, Michael (Lindsay) Shilney, Robert Shilney, and Joseph (Aisha) Shilney, and a cherished great-grandfather to Alexis, Alayna, and Gia. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Matthews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife June on March 15, 2012, his parents, Stanley and Anna Shilney, and his siblings Mary Pegarsch, Virginia Barnes, Edward Shilney, Richard Shilney, and Robert Shilney.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM at Vandenberg Funeral Home in Tinley Park. The service for Mr. Vincent Shilney will follow at 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.

Vincent will be remembered as a devoted family man, a proud veteran, and a man whose dedication to his community and country left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
