Thomas Edward Darling Jr.

Thomas Edward Darling Jr., 59, passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2026, in Oak Forest, Illinois.

Thomas was a man whose life was defined by loyalty, laughter, music, and the people he loved. Whether he was casting a fishing line into the water, playing bass guitar on stage, perfecting his latest project in the machine shop, or spending time with family and friends, he embraced life with enthusiasm and an unmistakable spirit.

A skilled machinist by trade, Thomas also proudly served his community as a police officer in Crestwood, Illinois. He believed in hard work, dedication, and always lending a hand whenever someone needed one.

Music was woven into the fabric of Thomas's life. As the bass guitarist for the Lost Road Band, he shared his love of classic rock and country music with audiences and friends alike. He was also a devoted fan of the band Rush, whose music remained a constant soundtrack throughout his life.

Thomas possessed incredible discipline and determination. A lifelong martial artist, he earned several black belts in Kenpo Karate and achieved the rank of Master. He spent countless hours training in the dojo and the gym, continually striving to better himself while encouraging others to do the same.

Above all else, Thomas treasured his family. On March 19, 2007, he married the love of his life, Dawn, in the Great Smoky Mountains. He affectionately called her his "little pup," a nickname that reflected the love, laughter, and friendship they shared throughout their marriage. Together they had already begun making plans to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, a milestone they eagerly anticipated.

Thomas was an all-around great friend whose generosity, humor, and genuine heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dawn Darling; his son, Andrew Darling; his cherished grandchildren, Thomas and Lillian; his faithful companions, Lilian Rose and Tigger; numerous extended family members; countless friends; and his fellow musicians and bandmates, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Kathy Barnard and Thomas Edward Darling Sr.

Services will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Darling family would be greatly appreciated and will help support the family during this difficult time.

Though his time here was far too short, Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, music, strength, and unwavering devotion to those he held close. His memory will continue to live on in every song played, every story shared, and every life he touched.
