Susan "Sue" M. Lyons

Dec 8, 1943 — Jun 23, 2026

Susan "Sue" M. Lyons (née Mohan) passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 82. Sue lived a life full of love, laughter, and the kind of stories families retell for generations - including a few she might prefer we didn't mention, but we're doing it anyway.

Born on December 8, 1943 in Chicago to John and Elizabeth (née Mathieu) Mohan, Sue was the beloved wife of the late Thomas P. Lyons, and the loving mother of Kevin (Maria) Lyons, Kerry (Chris) Duffie, and Colleen Lyons. She was the proud grandmother of Elizabeth and Emmett Duffie, and Jackson and Mallory Lyons, who brought her endless joy.

She was the much-loved sister of John "Jack" (Judy) Mohan, Thomas "Pete" (Carole) Mohan, the late Gerald "Jerry" (Judy) Mohan, and the late Richard "Dick" (Marsha) Mohan. She adored her sisters in law, particularly Peggy Harkins, her many nieces and nephews, and the entire extended Lyons and Mohan families.

Sue grew up in Chicago and attended St. Francis de Paula Parish and School and Aquinas High School. She later lived in Lansing and Mokena before residing at Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Her career in sales suited her perfectly - she had a natural warmth, a quick wit, and a way of making people feel seen.

Sue loved reading, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, and catching up with friends. She also seemed to enjoy cooking and baking, even if her kitchen occasionally produced legendary disasters, like the Thanksgiving she accidentally set a cheesecloth ablaze while following a Martha Stewart turkey recipe, or when important ingredients were left out, with less-than-ideal results blamed on a "faulty" oven.

Dementia slowly took pieces of Sue over the years, but it never fully dimmed her spark. She still made her trademark funny faces and said her signature catchphrase, "You know? You know?" She still tapped along to Motown music. She still flashed that sweet smile. And though she was never one to swear much - "bucko" was usually her harshest insult - dementia sometimes loosened her filter in ways that were, frankly, hilarious. Our sincere apologies to the stylist at Great Clips.
