Stephen C. Bauer

Sep 30, 1948 — Jun 8, 2026

Tinley Park, IL

It is with profound sadness that we announce Stephen C. Bauer, age 77, a cherished husband, father and grandfather of Tinley Park, IL, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. A devoted parishioner of St. Julie Billiart Church for many years, Stephen lived a life rooted in faith, family, education, and service to others.

Stephen dedicated much of his professional life to teaching where he earned a master's degree in education prioritizing mathematics and history, sharing his knowledge and passion for learning with countless students, spent hours with his children and grandchildren instructing how to complete homework and assignments. While working, he taught at Moraine Valley Community College and Marquette elementary school K-9, where he specialized in educating gifted students as well as those in special education programs. His patience, kindness, and dedication left a lasting impact on the many lives he touched throughout his career. With his own famous quote “Math is godlike this I know, because Mr. Bauer told me so...”

A man of many talents, Stephen could often be found instructing his sons how to fix, build, or improve something around the home. Then giving examples how it can go wrong and making into a grand story told at family gatherings for a laugh. Nonetheless, he took great pride in his work and would help family and friends with projects that came his way. Every morning and evening he would find joy in gardening with his wife, helping with yardwork, and enjoying the beauty of nature. Especially while sitting on the deck, hummingbirds would often visit and “the hawk” who always kept an eye on him would land on the shed to oversee. An avid reader of history, Stephen was always eager to expand his knowledge then teach others, mostly family and friends, who came over to sit and give time to listen and discuss with him.

Stephen cherished traveling, especially his trips to Michigan and the Port Huron area in the summer to visit his Cousin Jack Moss, where he enjoyed sailing and creating treasured memories with family and friends. He was also an enthusiastic golfer earlier in his life who looked forward to time spent on the course.

Above all else, Stephen’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured every moment spent with those he loved and will be remembered for his storytelling, generosity, intelligence, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. His memory will be lovingly carried forward by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Son to Roland and Mary Bauer (Late), he is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Debbie Bauer (nee Zack). Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support, creating a family that was the pride and joy of his heart. He leaves behind his beloved children—Tim, Matt, and late Lauren, Craig (Tara), Chris (Kristen), Jaymie who will forever cherish the memories of their father’s gentle guidance and unwavering love. Kind cousin of Barb Hall (John), Carol Bauer, and Mike Bauer (Rosaire), the late Jack Moss, and Karen (Lynn) Edgemon. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, twelve bright lights that brought him immense joy and pride.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we remember him as a beacon of love and laughter, whose life was a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring strength of family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
