Roy Lee Walker

Roy Lee Walker Jr., age 55, late of Peotone, Illinois, passed away on September 11, 2026, after a long health battle.

September 11 is a date that carries profound meaning for our nation. It is a day we promise to always remember the lives lost, the heroes who served, and the enduring strength and unity that followed. It is incredibly fitting that Roy, a proud United States Marine, took his next assignment on a day forever marked by remembrance. Just as the nation will always remember September 11, Roy will always be remembered by the family and friends whose lives he touched.

Roy was a proud United States Marine, and once a Marine, always a Marine. The strength, loyalty, discipline, and unwavering sense of duty instilled in him during his service never left him. He carried those values into every part of his life, especially in the way he loved and protected his family.

Semper Fidelis. Always Faithful. It was more than the motto of the United States Marine Corps to Roy. It was how he lived. He was faithful to his country, devoted to his family, and loyal to the people fortunate enough to call him a friend.

Roy was a family man with an adventurous spirit and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He loved escaping the everyday routine and heading outdoors, where the air was fresh, the scenery was peaceful, and the only thing that mattered was the company around the campfire. Camping gave Roy a sense of freedom and contentment. Those quiet moments beneath the open sky, surrounded by the people he loved, were some of his happiest.

When Roy was not outdoors, there was a good chance he was watching a movie or cheering on his beloved San Francisco 49ers. A devoted fan through every win, loss, and questionable play call, Roy never wavered in his loyalty. He was also an avid movie buff who appreciated the stories, characters, and escape that a great film could provide.

For 13 years, Roy worked for NFI. He gave his time, dedication, and strong work ethic to his career while building relationships and friendships that became an important part of his story.

Above everything else, Roy treasured his family. His greatest legacy will not be measured by the years he worked, the games he watched, or the places he traveled. It will be found in the lives of the people he loved, the memories they created together, and the stories that will continue to be told whenever his name is spoken.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda L. Walker, née Hodge; his loving children, Brian (Megan) Walker and Kevin Walker; his cherished grandchildren, Carmella, Lucas, and Lino Walker; his caring sister, Tammy Alberico; his wonderful nephew, Dominic (Graciella) Alberico, and his nephew-in-law Chris Roman.

He is also survived by his loving stepchildren, Gordon (Nicole), Lauren, Brendan, Zachary, and Logan Kosteroski, and his cherished step-grandchildren, James and Skyler Kosteroski.

Roy was preceded in death by his dear parents, Roy Lee Walker Sr. and Alice Walker, and his beautiful beloved niece and God-daughter, Jordan Roman.

Roy's passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fill, but his presence will remain. He will be remembered around campfires, during family gatherings, whenever the 49ers take the field, and each time a familiar movie brings back a favorite memory. He will live on through the stories, laughter, lessons, and love he left behind.

Per the family's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Vandenberg Funeral Home in Tinley Park, Illinois.

Roy will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors, a final and fitting tribute to a proud Marine who served his country with honor.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project in recognition of Roy's dedication to his fellow veterans.
