Ronald "Ron" O. Bortscheller, age 85, of Orland Park, IL and born and raised in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. Ron was a devoted member of Parkview Church in Orland Park, IL for many years, where he built lasting friendships and faithfully served his church.
A dedicated educator, Ron spent much of his career teaching drafting and driver's education at Curie High School, Brother Rice High School, St. Rita High School, and Gage Park High School, and among several others. He took great pride in helping students learn practical skills and gain confidence both in the classroom and behind the wheel.
Known for his ability to fix just about anything, Ron was a true handyman whose talents extended to woodworking, stained glass craftsmanship, and automotive projects. He enjoyed working with his hands and creating things that would be treasured for years to come.
Ron embraced life with enthusiasm and a great sense of humor. He loved telling jokes, especially his famous knock-knock jokes, and could always be counted on to bring laughter to any gathering. His fun-loving personality and quick wit made him a joy to be around. He found happiness in the outdoors, spending time boating and water skiing, and creating cherished memories at the family lake house on Lake Shafer, IN.
Above all, Ron was a devoted family man. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild. His love, laughter, guidance, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him. Ron's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, humor, craftsmanship, and love for family.
Beloved husband of Dorothy Bortscheller (nee Johnson) for 59 years. Loving father of Jonathan (Jennifer), James (Sherry), Thomas (Mary), and Lynn Bortscheller. Cherished grandfather of Kaylee (Edward) Sandor, Sarah (William) Leonard, Julia, Ryan, Jack, Sydney, late Seth, and late Samantha Bortscheller. Cherished great grandfather of Benjamin. Caring brother of Michael (late Ruth) Bortscheller. Dear son of the late Michael and late Lucille, and late stepfather Edward Pfeifer.
Visitation and Interment will be Private.
