Richard “Rick” Van Der Muil passed away, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who loved him dearly.
Born on March 26, 1952, Rick lived life with a crack of a joke, an adventurous spirit, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He found happiness in the simple things: a fishing pole in his hand, a karaoke microphone nearby, a show to attend, and, most importantly, time spent with the people he loved.
Rick met the love of his life, Janet, through family while pheasant hunting. That chance introduction blossomed into a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure. Together they enjoyed traveling, the family they built, and making memories wherever the road took them.
Rick began his career working construction alongside his father before spending many years as a truck driver. He finished his working career with Ozinga Ready Mix, where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Van Der Muil (née Kuse); his children, Kristena (Spencer) Fetherling, Keri Van Der Muil, and R.J. Van Der Muil; and his treasured grandchildren, Nolan, Dylan, and Avery.
Being Papa was Rick’s greatest joy. His grandchildren were the center of his world. He was their biggest fan, always cheering them on with pride and unconditional love.
Rick loved music and never passed up the opportunity to DJ or run a karaoke night. His sense of humor was legendary. A lifelong prankster, he loved making people laugh and became well known for his elaborate Halloween costumes, especially his unforgettable portrayals of Beetlejuice and The Terminator.
Rick will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud Papa, loyal friend, and a man who never met a stranger. His larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and generous heart will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
