“There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.” — Gandhi

Nancy Wakeham, age 76, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, surrounded by her family. Her departure leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Born on June 10, 1949, in Chicago, Nancy lived a life defined by grace, humility, and unwavering love. She moved through the world with a quiet strength that grounded all who knew her. Her presence alone carried a warmth—gentle, steady, and deeply comforting.

Nancy dedicated her life to her family, who were her greatest joy and her proudest accomplishment. As a wife, she was devoted and supportive; as a mother, she was nurturing and endlessly patient. As the heart of her family, she tied everyone together with compassion, thoughtfulness, and an instinctive ability to care for others in ways both simple and profound.

She welcomed new members of the family with open arms, embracing them without hesitation, and making them feel instantly at home. Her generosity of spirit, her kindness, and her ability to make people feel valued and loved were gifts she shared freely.

Nancy had a quiet way of giving—always thinking of others, always offering help, often without seeking recognition or praise. She remembered the small moments, noticed the subtle needs, and offered gestures that made those around her feel truly seen. She was the best of all of us.

Her legacy is one of love, steadiness, and selflessness. She taught, through example, what it means to live with grace. Her influence will continue to shape her family for generations to come.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Michael Wakeham; her children, Kathryn (Robert Jr.) Cline and Christopher (Lauren) Wakeham; her grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick, Connor, Lola, and Pepper; and a large extended family and circle of friends who cherished her.

Nancy and Michael shared a love story that began in the most Chicago way—meeting by chance on a train platform. Michael worked at McCormick Place, and Nancy worked in downtown Chicago at RR Donnelley & Sons. That simple meeting blossomed into a lifetime of partnership, laughter, and unwavering loyalty.

Nancy found peace in the simple joys of home, especially in her backyard. She loved sitting outside and enjoying the space she and Mike created together. It remained one of her favorite places to be.

Though her absence will be felt deeply, her spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her. Nancy will be missed endlessly—and loved forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to NAWS—either through their resale shop or online—in honor of Nancy’s lifelong devotion to caring for others.
