After marrying the love of her life, Jose Gonzales, in Texas, the couple made their way to Chicagoland in 1967 and eventually settled in Matteson, where they built a beautiful life together centered around family and community. Together they shared a deep commitment to supporting veterans and were longtime members of Rehfeldt-Meyer American Legion Post #474, where Modesta was an active auxiliary member. She dedicated countless hours volunteering for veterans organizations and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
Modesta was the beloved mother of Emilio (Jessica Case) Gonzales, Lorenza (Steven) Davidson, and Consuelo (Martin) O'Connor. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Zoe, Maxwell, Charles, and Xavier, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life. She is also survived by her dear brother, Anastacio (Oma) Farias Jr.; sisters-in-law Socorro Farias and Dora Farias; many nieces and nephews and her beloved goddaughter, Kristina Reilly.
She was known by all who loved her as intelligent, hardworking, loyal, and deeply devoted to her family and friends. Modesta was strong willed and determined, she faced life's challenges head on with grace and resilience.
Shortly before retirement, Modesta suffered a brain aneurysm that changed the course of her life. True to who she was, she fought courageously through every obstacle and overcame so much so she could continue making memories with her grandchildren and family. Her strength, lighthearted spirit, and carefree nature continued to shine brightly through the years.
