Matthew John August

Matthew was born on June 22, 1996, the son of Joan (nee Degnan) and Robert August. He was a brother to Michael (Jessica) August, Ryan (fiancée Gina Offerman) August, and Daniel (Elissa) August, and an uncle to four beautiful nephews he adored. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward August, Mary August and John Degnan.

Matthew graduated from Lincoln-Way East High School, where he was a standout athlete, and went on to run cross country at Carthage College. Running mattered to him, and he stuck with it for years.

He was a lifelong Chicago sports fan and enjoyed watching games with family and friends. He also had a soft spot for retro gaming - Zelda, Mario 64, and N64 classics, with plenty of hours spent on speedruns. Majora's Mask and Halo 3 were his favorites.

Matthew was at his best around his nephews and the family dogs. They brought out an easy, gentle side of him.

Memorial Visitation, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Prayers will be offered at 6:30 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home 19604 S. Wolf Rd. Mokena, IL 60448. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 19515 115th Ave. Mokena, IL 60558.

He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
