Louis D'Antonio, of Mokena, Illinois (formerly of Blue Island), passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026.
Born on April 8, 1938, in Ripacandida, Italy, Louis was the beloved son of Carmela and Joseph D'Antonio, both of whom preceded him in death.
Louis devoted his career to Metra, last serving as a General Maintenance Foreman for the Rock Island and Illinois Central Railroads. A gifted carpenter and meticulous craftsman, he took immense pride in his work and approached every task with unwavering dedication. Known for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, Louis was always ready to lend a helping hand.
After immigrating to America in pursuit of the American Dream, Louis met the love of his life, Ann. Together, they built a beautiful family and a life filled with love, resilience, and countless cherished memories.
Louis is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Ann D'Antonio (née Marcheschi), and their six children: Lou Ann D'Antonio; Joseph (Yumi) D'Antonio; Joanne (Jeff) Nagel; MaryAnn (John) Waxweiler; Frank (Michele) D'Antonio; and Mario (Amie) D'Antonio.
He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren: Nichole (Cory) Jones; Michael (Tara) Padua; Matthew (Marcia) Padua; Charles M. Wurl; Tiler (Zach) Bradshaw; Nicolaus (Samantha) D'Antonio; Madeline (Connor) Benjamin; Kevin (Shannon) Nagel; Alison (Sebastein) Aspeitia; Jack Waxweiler; Joseph (Laura) Nagel; Lucas D'Antonio; Lena Padua; and Emily Pickrum; Louis D'Antonio and great-grandfather to 12 great-grandchildren: Cooper Wurl; Lilyah Jones; Brynnah Jones; Graham Jones; Buffy Padua; Madeleine D'Antonio; Marcus D'Antonio; Sophia D'Antonio; Leandro Padua; Francesco Aspeitia; Declan Bradshaw and Conner Bradshaw.
Louis is also survived by his sisters, Mary (Alan) Garfield and Lucy (Bob) Kasson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael (Rossette) D'Antonio. He is lovingly remembered as well by his in‑laws, Frances and Jerry Hartman, Pierangela Bertucci and by his cherished nieces and nephews: Mary (Donato) LaMorte; Joseph (Antoinette) D'Antonio; Jason Bradley; Amanda Hartman and Gina & Mark Bertucci.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Road Mokena, IL. 60448. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, January 24th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Benedict Cemetery, 4600 West 135th Street, Crestwood, IL 60445.
