Layunice Elaine Evans

February 25, 1940 — March 21, 2026

Layunice "Eunice" Evans was an inspiration to her entire family. No matter who was sick or struggling, Eunice was there. Caring for others was simply who she was. She spent her life helping people heal, comforting them, and making even the hardest days a little easier.

Eunice worked as a caregiver and took tremendous pride in caring for others. She worked day and night because she cared so deeply for her clients, especially Ms. Rudolph and Ms. Elizabeth, whom she lovingly cared for until the day of their passing. Though she never went to school to become a doctor, everyone who knew her would say that she somehow always knew exactly what was wrong. She could look into your eyes, tell you what symptoms you had, and tell you exactly what medicine you needed.

Even after retirement, Eunice never truly stopped working. She was always there when someone needed her. The world has lost a woman who was caring, hardworking, happy, strong-willed, and at times could be a little tough, but she loved deeply and completely.

Known to most as simply "Eunice," she loved everyone: her family, friends, and even those she sometimes called her enemies. She especially loved spending time with her nephew Johnny Vaughn, listening to the blues and going to hear live blues bands every few months. She loved the music of B.B. King and enjoyed trips for Buddy Guy's Gumbo. When Eunice laughed, her whole body shook, and everyone around her laughed too.

Life was not always easy, but Eunice had a way of making hard times feel a little more comfortable. One of her son's favorite memories was his 16th birthday, when Eunice went to One Stop, bought a case of ribs and a small barbecue pit, and invited the entire neighborhood to celebrate. More than 50 people gathered in the vacant lot, eating ribs, laughing, and making memories. That was Eunice. She never did anything halfway, and she made everyone feel welcome.

Eunice was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ann Titus, Gerdis Robinson, Vergie Hayes, and J.L. Evans.

She is survived by her brother, Freeman Evans; her beloved son, Michael Evans; her cherished grandchildren, Cierra Davis and Malik Evans; along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were forever changed by her love.
