Joan Bernicky

Joan Bernicky of Mokena, Il, 87, passed away on November 3, 2026.

Joan was the loving mother of Chris Bernicky, Louis Bernicky Jr., and Alan Bernicky. She was the proud grandmother of Ashley Bernicky, Brandon Bernicky, Mackenzie Bernicky, and Alex (Katie) Bernicky, and the proud great-grandmother of Cavela. She was the dear sister of Pat (the late Donald) Cline and James (Mary) Yahnke.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years Louis Bernicky, her parents, Clyde and Verna Yahnke, her sister, Betty Smith, and her brother, Clyde Yahnke.

Joan was a beautician for more than 40 years and ran her own beauty shop right out of her house. She loved going out to listen to live bands, and if there was music, she wanted to dance. Her family still tells the story of the Halloween she dressed up as the Purple Witch and won first place at Gusto's.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home in Mokena, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois.
