Jerome Lapinskas

March 6, 1942 — March 5, 2026

Jerome "Jerry" Lapinskas, 83, passed away on March 5, 2026.

Jerry was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Maka) Lapinskas, his sweetheart since their early school days. The two shared a beautiful life together after attending prom in 1962 and marrying in 1966. Together they raised their family first near Midway Airport before settling in Orland Park, where they created a home filled with love, laughter, and pride.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army beginning in 1963, where he was stationed in Korea as a clerk. During his service he had the opportunity to travel to Japan, experiences he often remembered fondly. Later, while serving in the Army Reserves, he worked at Great Lakes in Chicago.

Professionally, Jerry dedicated his career to the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center on Chicago's West Side, where he worked as an HVAC engineer. Known for his strong work ethic and reliability, Jerry took pride in everything he did and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Jerry loved the outdoors. He looked forward to hunting trips to Livingston, Illinois and fishing trips to Tomahawk, Wisconsin with his family. He also took great pride in keeping one of the best lawns in the neighborhood and appreciated nothing more than a perfectly cut stretch of grass. Jerry was an avid Chicago sports fan who faithfully cheered on the Blackhawks, Bears, Bulls, and the White Sox.

More than anything, Jerry was devoted to his family. In later years he became a dedicated caregiver to his beloved wife Patricia, caring for her with patience, love, and quiet strength for many years.

Jerry is survived by his loving children Dan (Rachael) Lapinskas and Cheryl Burns; his cherished grandchildren Evan Burns, Nolan Burns, and Noah Lapinskas; his brother John (Kathy) Lapinskas; and his sister Laura Lapinskas, along with nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss him greatly.

Jerry was a respected and well-liked man whose kindness, sense of humor, and steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He found joy in the simple things in life, time with family, a day outdoors, cheering on his favorite teams, and taking pride in a job well done.
