Jason Mcelyea, 48, passed away on May 7, 2026.
Born on August 21, 1977, in Hammond, Indiana, Jason was the beloved son of Gregory and Kathleen McElyea. A loving son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend, Jason will be remembered for his generous heart, his creativity, and the deep love he had for his family.
Jason had a passion for cooking and found great joy in bringing people together around the table. Family celebrations were especially important to him, and he lovingly prepared meals for holidays, Mother's Day gatherings, and his mother's birthday, creating traditions and memories that will forever be cherished by those who loved him. He also loved building and creating things with his hands, always finding satisfaction in making something meaningful and lasting.
Jason was a proud member of Mokena's ESDA Emergency Services Disaster Agency, where his willingness to serve and help others reflected the caring and dependable person he was throughout his life.
He was the cherished brother of Tina (Kevin) Borvansky and Matthew (Tammy) McElyea. Jason was a devoted uncle to Madi Borvansky, Alexandra Morgan, Lacy Morgan, and Monica Cross, and held a special place in his heart as the proud godfather of Madi.
Jason was preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed him into eternal peace.
Visitation, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 S. Wolf Rd. Mokena, IL 60448. Funeral Mass, Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 19515 115th Ave. Mokena, IL 60448. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Burial services will be held privately.
