James "Jim" S. Kapocius

Mar 28, 1952 — Oct 4, 2026

Tinley Park, IL

James "Jim" S. Kapocius, age 74, of Tinley Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026. Jim was a man who found joy in the simple things in life-his family, his dogs, a good joke, music, traveling, and sharing a laugh with the people around him. He had a warm and positive personality and had a wonderful way of making people feel comfortable and welcome. If you knew Jim, chances are you heard one of his jokes and, whether you wanted to or not, ended up laughing along with him.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He met the love of his life, Linda C. (nee Weiss) Kapocius, while they were both working at Continental Bank. Together they shared 48 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, memories, laughter, and love.

He was the loving father of Brian (Deena) Kapocius and Dennis Kapocius. He was a caring brother to Keith (Cathy) Kapocius and the late Cindy Henry, and the dear son of the late Sylvester and the late Elizabeth Kapocius. He was also a kind and loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Jim's faith was an important part of his life. He was a parishioner of St. George Church in Tinley Park and participated in the prayer group at St. Damian Church in Oak Forest. His faith, family, and friendships were a source of great meaning to him.

Jim had a curious spirit and enjoyed many different things. He was an avid stamp collector and loved watching soccer, especially the Chicago Fire. He enjoyed all kinds of music and looked forward to going to neighborhood festivals, where he could enjoy the music, the atmosphere, and the company.

Jim had a particularly special place in his heart for animals. He loved tigers and even visited two animal sanctuaries. His own dogs, Dusty and Casper, were much more than pets; they were cherished members of his family and brought him tremendous happiness.

He also loved to travel and experience new places. From a memorable trip to St. Lucia to travels out West and adventures closer to home, Jim enjoyed seeing new places and making memories along the way. Many of those memories were made even more special because he was able to share them with the people he loved.

But perhaps what Jim will be remembered for most was his personality. He was genuinely positive, quick to smile, and always ready with a joke. He had a gift for making people laugh and brightening the room simply by being himself. His laughter, stories, kindness, and optimistic spirit will live on in the memories of everyone who knew and loved him.

Jim leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them always. He will be deeply missed, but the laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave will never be forgotten.
