James Michael Carroll

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of James "Jim" Michael Carroll, who passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 66. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his life was defined by love, resilience, quiet strength, and an unwavering devotion to the people who meant the most to him.
James was a remarkable man whose greatest legacy was the love he gave to his family and friends. He was known for his creativity, thoughtfulness, caring nature, genuine kindness, and dry sense of humor that could bring a smile even during life's most difficult moments. No matter the challenge, he had an incredible ability to find the positive in almost every situation, reminding those around him that there was always hope.
Above all else, James was a fighter. Through every obstacle life placed before him, he faced it with courage, determination, and unwavering resilience. Giving up was never an option. His strength inspired everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Family was the center of James's world. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Michele, whose memory remained forever in his and our hearts.
James was the proud and devoted father of his daughter, Melissa, whom he loved indefinitely. James gave Melissa a childhood filled with fun, encouragement, creativity, laughter, guidance, and unconditional love. One of the greatest blessings of his life was becoming a grandpa to his beloved granddaughter, Paetyn who brought endless joy to his heart.
James found happiness in life's simple pleasures. Whether casting a fishing line into calm waters, cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs, or simply spending time surrounded by family and friends, he appreciated every moment and made those around him feel valued and loved.
A dedicated and hardworking professional, James spent about twenty years with Kmart, proudly serving in management. His commitment, integrity, and strong work ethic reflected the values he carried throughout every aspect of his life.
James leaves behind a legacy built on compassion, perseverance, generosity, courage, and unconditional love. He taught those around him the importance of staying strong, finding joy in everyday moments, and always putting family first. His compassion, resilience, unique dry sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
James is lovingly survived by his daughter, Melissa (Brian) Marino; his treasured granddaughter, Paetyn; his siblings, Arlene Walling, Patsy (Donald) Ecklund, Donald Carroll, and Tom Carroll. Many nieces, nephews, extended family members also grieve along with dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Michele Carroll; his parents, Donald and Lois Carroll; his sisters, Virginia (Lance) Schuman, and Margaret Carroll; and nephews, Erik Schuman and Dave (Bobbie) Ebert.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park, IL 60477. A Chapel Service will be held at 6:00 PM and celebrated by Fr. John Zurch. Inurnment will take place privately at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frankfort, IL.
