Herbert "Herb" Binner Jr., a proud United States Marine, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born on May 16, 1942, Herb lived a life defined by honor, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying the values of courage, loyalty, and commitment throughout his life. He was deeply honored to have earned the title of United States Marine, a distinction he carried with great pride.
Above all, Herb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Laveda Binner, whose steadfast love and companionship were the foundation of their family.
He was the beloved father of the late Herbert Allen Binner and Janice "Jane" Binner. He was a proud grandfather to Miranda (Jay Sayre) Donahue, Madisyn Allensworth, and Joseph Allensworth. His greatest joy was spending time with his great-grandchildren, Marcel, Wesley, Gianna, Maliyah, and Faye, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by his loving sister, Alice Lackhouse; his brother, Wally Binner; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Herb was preceded in death by his son Herbert Allen Binner, his parents, Herbert Binner Sr. and Diamond Smith, as well as his siblings Lloyd, Clark, Philip, Gary, and Pat.
Those who knew Herb will remember his quiet strength, gentle nature, and steadfast devotion to his family. He believed in hard work, keeping his word, and serving others with humility. Whether through his military service or the example he set for those around him, Herb lived a life of honor, integrity, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Road, Mokena, Illinois 60448.
Interment will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, Illinois, where United States Marine Corps Military Honors will be rendered in recognition of his faithful service to our nation.
The Binner family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
Semper Fidelis. Rest easy, Marine. Your watch is over, and your duty is complete. Thank you for your faithful service, your unwavering love for your family, and the lasting legacy you leave behind.
