Gregory K. McElyea

Gregory K. McElyea, 72, late of Mokena, IL. Beloved husband of 55 years to Kathleen McElyea. Loving father of Tina (Kevin) Borvansky, Matthew (Tammy) McElyea, and the late Jason McElyea. Caring and proud grandfather of Madlean Borvansky, Monica Cross, Alexandra Morgan, and Lacy Morgan, and great-grandfather of Isaiah and Joseph.

Dear brother of Virgie Koeppel and Steve McElyea. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Madalean McElyea, and his siblings, Sam, Mary, and Panzy.

Greg was a mechanic by trade and worked in the automotive field for 30 years. He also had a strong desire to serve his community and help his neighbors. Greg was a 35-year member of the Mokena Emergency Services Department, ultimately serving as commander of the agency. He could often be found directing traffic during an emergency, always doing his part to help keep his community safe.

Greg was also a bass guitarist who loved country rock music. Above all, especially later in life, Greg found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 3:00-8:00 PM at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 Wolf Road, Mokena, IL. A Chapel Service will commence that evening at 6:00 PM. Interment will be held privately.
