Barbara J. Moore

Barbara J. Moore (nee Sommerdyke), age 81, late of Mokena, IL, passed away July 30, 2024, peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was a secretary for the Mokena Public Schools for 15 years and then became a secretary at CAM Pipe Clearing until she retired. She was a former parishioner of St. Mary Church in Mokena, IL. Barbara enjoyed gardening, reading, bird watching, mowing the lawn on her John Deere, Lorna Doone cookies, and cooking. Barbara loved quilting and sewing and would make items such as blankets, baby bibs, and pillows.

Barbara was often described as thoughtful and kind. Barbara and her husband Jan would vacation to Tresure Coast RV Park in Florida during the winter months. During their 20 years of vacationing to Florida, they created countless memories and shared many fun times together. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Barbara married Jan Moore on December 7, 1960, and spent 64 wonderful years together. Loving mother of Steve (Jeanne) Moore and Susie (David) Lee. Cherished grandmother of Emily (David) Mihelic, Timothy (Jessica) Moore, Jimmy (Blaze) Lee, and Bryan (Jess) Lee. Cherished great grandmother of Lola, Mila, and David. Caring sister of the late Caroline (Dan) Michalak, Kathy Namors, Henry Sommerdyke, Janet (Mel) Johnson, Joe (Heidi) Sommerdyke. Dear daughter of the late Henry Sr. and the late Elizabeth Sommerdyke. Kind aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation, Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 S. Wolf Rd. Mokena, IL 60448.
