Barbara J. Bekker (nee Mizicko), age 86, late of Mokena, IL, passed away March 31, 2026. Born on November 22, 1939, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Antoinette Mizicko. She met the love of her life, Jerome M. Bekker, during her college years at Marycrest College, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith and devotion.

Barbara was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary Church in Mokena, where her deep faith in God guided her throughout her life. She dedicated many years to serving the Church as a Director of Religious Education at multiple parishes, sharing her compassion, wisdom, and commitment to faith with countless families. Barbara cherished the time she spent with her family at her cottage in Sturgis, Michigan where days unfolded peacefully along the shores of Fish Lake.

An avid reader, Barbara found joy in learning and reflection. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family. 

She remained deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, taking great pride in being present for each of their milestones. She faithfully attended every sporting event, performance, and activity, always offering her unwavering support and encouragement. Whether cheering from the sidelines or celebrating their accomplishments, her presence was a constant source of love and strength, and her dedication to her grandchildren will be cherished and remembered always. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barbara's legacy of faith, service, and family devotion will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Beloved wife of Jerome M. Bekker for 65 years. Loving mother of Barbara Ann (Helen Bowen) Flassig, Jerome E. (Christa) Bekker, Bradley M. Bekker, and the late John "Jay" Jerard Bekker. Cherished grandmother of Jonathon Bekker, Ivy Shoultz, Justin (Erin) Bekker, Julianne Bekker, Ethan Flassig, and Bethany Flassig. Cherished great-grandmother of Stella, Amara, and George. Caring sister of Diane (late Frank) Lazowski and the late Edward (late Jean) Mizicko. Kind aunt of several nieces and nephews.

Visitation, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 19604 S. Wolf Rd. Mokena, IL 60448. Funeral prayers will begin at the Funeral Home, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM for Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will be Private.
